Bernard’s Ski Resort Logo

Branding project logo created for a ski resort located in the mountains of Colorado, Bernard’s Ski Resort.

Project Goal

Create a logo for your desired brand. Utilize research and sketches to create five black and white and colored logos before narrowing it down to one main logo to represent your brand. After creating each of the logos, I had to briefly describe why I created each design and how each concept would work for my brand before moving forward to select the final one I wanted to use.

My Experience

When deciding on the name for my ski resort, I automatically went to thinking about mountains and from there I got reminded of Avalanches. St. Bernard’s are commonly known for rescuing people from underneath piles of snow, so choosing the name ‘Bernard’s’ was a playful and fun way to incorporate a cute mascot into my brand. Before digitalizing my logos, I spent time sketching different ideas that included the dog mascot, mountains, and anything else that reminded me of snow and skiing.

After sketching, I chose five of my ideas and digitalized them in illustrator to create both black and white and colored logos. I tried to incorporate a variety of different ideas that included different vectorized imagery and some with just strictly type. I wanted the color palette to emulate an outdoorsy feel, so I stuck to with earth-like colors for each logo. After creating the five logos I compiled them all together on the delivery template and described how each designed was created and why it went well with my original brand.

The Outcome

I ended up leaning more towards the logo with the full body St. Bernard because I believed that described my overall brand in the best way, however I also really liked the incorporation of the mountain shaped outline as the letter ‘A’ in the last logo, so for my final logo I combined both into one. I enjoyed this process because it allowed me to think about why I designed each logo the way it did, and forced me to consider every aspect of the logo intentionally.
